April Ross is one of the few female beach volleyball athletes to capture medals at more than one Olympics. She will be competing in Tokyo for her 3rd Olympic medal alongside Alix Klineman who is a first-time Olympian. Ross's dream is to earn her first Olympic Gold. At 39 she could have her final chance. Nevertheless, she remains confident of achieving top honours. Ross was quoted in NBC Boston as saying that If you put in your highest, and even do well, we'll get the gold. In addition, I'm planning be relying on a little bit of good luck. Ross is born in the year 1982. Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents and sister. Along with participating in a variety of sports, Ross also attended Newport Harbor High School. Her pre-athletic career comprised indoor volleyball as well as basketball as well as running and track. Her achievements were rewarded by her being named 1999 Gatorade's Circle Of Champions National Players of the Year. She also captured the 1999 Orange County Athlete of the Year trophy for volleyball. Ross is currently working with Klineman from 2017, but Ross's beach game had been established long before this. It's true that she's been a winner of numerous major tournaments and one partner was a renowned volleyball player. For six years from 2007 until 2013, she was a team together with Jennifer Kessy who more recently played the role of Klineman's coach. Kessy was Ross's co-coach at the 2009 World Championships. The pair eventually picked up a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. They were beaten out for the gold medal by the legendary team comprised of Misty May-Treanor as well as Kerri Walsh (Jennings). It was fate that had them. Ross turned out to be Walsh Jennings' new partner as May-Treanor stepped down. The pair went on to earn the beach volleyball bronze at the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. After high school and several years prior to hitting the sand as a pro Ross was a ball with the Trojans of USC as a collegiate. Ross had an impressive run during her time in the NCAA tournament. She was a All-American and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year when she was a teen freshman. Additionally, she was an integral player in helping the Trojans to make it to the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a heartbreaking personal loss during her sophomore year however she was able to return her place as an All-American. The two years following her she led the Trojans up the mountain and won consecutive national titles. Ross was an excellent volleyball player and won the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the most outstanding female volleyball player at the college level. Ross was who was a USC international relations student, was a star in volleyball. Unfortunately Ross mom Margie never got to see Ross rise to the very top of beach volleyball superstardom. Ross's mother died of cancer of the breast in 2001. Ross had just become sophomore at USC. As a result, Ross is still close to her deceased parent. Margie remains a constant source of inspiration for her, both on and off the beach.
